Computer Vision Technology automates car accident claims

European insurers can now plug into Accenture’s groundbreaking Software-as-a-Service solution that extracts handwritten information from the European Accident Form (EAF) in real-time, speeding up data entry and automating claims handling.

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a car accident, the process of submitting an insurance claim may add to your misery. The EAF is already used in most European countries to submit a car accident claim, especially when a third party is involved. Despite not being compulsory, the EAF is essential to receive quick compensation. It does this by providing an agreed statement of facts by all those involved in the accident, thereby speeding up assessment and responsibility decisions. 

Although digital versions of the EAF exist (e.g. Crashform) the most common way to file a claim is still to fill out and sign a paper version of the document, and then send the scanned version back to the insurance company by post, email or upload on their website. The insurance company then has to manually enter the data from the EAF into their claims system before claim handling can begin. This leads to overly long claims cycles and the risk of human error in data entry.

Using advanced Computer Vision Technology and Artificial Intelligence Deep Learning, it assesses, extracts and structures handwritten information and sketches on the EAF and sends the structured data back to the insurer. As well as helping insurers to avoid manual EAF data entry, it also enables end-to-end automation of the claims process, including fuzzy matching the policy to open the claim automatically.
