Accenture joins Open@Work partners at Belgian Pride

On May 19, Accenture and its Open@Work partners – AXA Bank, .beproud!, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING Belgium, KliQ vzw and Trainbow Belgium – marched at Belgian Pride, the annual celebration of diversity held in the capital.

A workplace where LGBT employees feel welcome and valued

Belgian Pride is just one of the ways our LGBT Network in Belgium & Luxembourg translates Accenture’s global commitment to creating a workplace where LGBT employees feel welcome and valued into concrete actions. Another is our Allies Network: 164 colleagues from all levels of our organization who, with their rainbow-colored Ally lanyards, are setting an example by demonstrating their support for LGBT colleagues and our inclusive working environment. Our goal is to double the number of Allies in Belgium & Luxembourg by 2019, in line with Accenture’s global target. For these and other initiatives, Accenture Belgium & Luxembourg was proud to receive the Gold Pink Brand Award for LGBTQ Friendly Company in 2017.

At Accenture, I can talk about the fact that I’m gay, that I’m married to a man. I can openly speak about that

In 2016, Accenture colleague Sven Vandyck (Proposal Development Manager) together with two LGBT activists began exploring an idea to bring in-company diversity and LGBT networks together and inspire more companies and organisations to create similar networks. Their initiative Open@Work was born, and it didn’t take long before Accenture, KliQ vzw & BNP Paribas Fortis agreed to support and host its first professional networking events.

Since then, Belgian Defence Rainbow Community (BELDEFRAC), the Flemish Government, ING Belgium and AXA have joined the initiative by hosting an Open@Work networking drink. These events combine short updates on LGBT workplace trends by inspiring speakers with an informal drink. The main goals are to build a cross-company network in Belgium focusing on ‘Out in the workplace’; join forces in creating an inclusive work environment for the LGBT community; and exchange good practices on LGBT and Allies company networks. Many other companies and networks will be hosting an event in the coming months, including the Federal Government (.beproud!) and Trainbow Belgium (NMBS/SNCB).
